Abstract

It is an invitation to reflect on collective and community education, especially in times of crisis. At the basis of the reflection, it is a lived and constantly evolving experience, which seeks to strengthen popular education through the active collaboration of the whole community. Using the metaphor of “community pots”, it explains how education should be a collective effort, built together with many hands and diverse actors. Community pots symbolize not only popular organization and resistance, but also commitment to the common good and the construction of alternatives in difficult times, when contexts become adverse.

Current crises, such as pandemics, violence and states of exception, have promoted an individualistic vision that continues to deteriorate the sense of community. This vision, increasingly legitimized by the system, has caused educational responsibility to be delegated solely to families and schools, ignoring the importance of the co-responsibility of society. Several key actions and reflections are presented in order to move towards a collective education, among which the following stand out: going through the territory for its recognition, creating links, awakening the heart, strengthening solidarity and maintaining an approach oriented towards the common good. The need to “transmit” by example, the desire to collaborate and actively participate in our contexts is emphasized, understanding that educating is a collective and political act, where the community is not only a recipient, but an active actor that builds knowledge and social justice.
